Federal and West Virginia officials announced a proposed settlement covering four Chemours facilities in three states. The estimated cost exceeds $450 million across penalties, pollution controls and other required work; it is not entirely a cash payment. The agreement includes a $22.5 million penalty, a $90 million mitigation program, and drinking-water testing and treated or alternative water for communities near facilities in West Virginia and New Jersey.
