My story
Why I Built This Website
My name is Frank Wang, and I’m a high school student from New Jersey with a strong interest in environmental science, history, and public policy. I created “PFAS in New Jersey” after learning how widespread PFAS contamination is across our state—and realizing that most residents don’t have clear, accessible, or reliable information about what PFAS are, where they come from, and how they may affect our drinking water. New Jersey is one of the states most affected by PFAS pollution. Yet the information available to the public is often technical, scattered across scientific reports, or difficult to interpret without a background in chemistry or policy. I believe students can play a role in environmental education and community health. This project became a way for me to combine my interests in environment, history, policy, and public communication.
My Mission
My mission is to provide a trusted, student-led PFAS resource for New Jersey residents—one that empowers families, supports transparency, and encourages young people to engage with science and policy. Environmental issues can feel overwhelming, but I believe that clear information is the first step toward meaningful change. So I set out to create a platform that would:
Explain the science behind PFAS in clear, simple language;
Visualize New Jersey’s PFAS data using maps and charts;
Help families understand whether their water is affected;
Summarize complex regulations and scientific studies;
Highlight environmental justice issues across the state; and
Provide actionable guidance to reduce exposure.
